Outdoor Adventure Activities

The leadership semester at the Castle Rock Institute is a more intensive outdoor adventure program. It includes a variety of activities, but offers a greater emphasis on outdoor skills and expeditionary operations. Taking full advantage of nearby national forests and wilderness areas, this program is designed for students with more experience in outdoor adventure sports.

The semester consists of a series of activity units where we spend a block of time-- perhaps as much as 3 weeks-- concentrating on one particular activity whether it be rock climbing, sea kayaking, backpacking, or whitewater paddling. With only limited time at the CRI base camp, the majority of the program (both academic and adventure components) occurs in the field. This schedule is a great way for students to improve their outdoor skills.

Listed here are the main outdoor activities we offer in this program.

  • Hiking
  • Camping
  • Mountain Biking
  • Flatwater canoeing
  • Whitewater canoeing
  • Whitewater kayaking
  • Rock climbing
  • Backpacking
  • Sea kayaking
  • Rafting
  • Caving
